Privacy Policy & Terms of Use

This Privacy Policy and Terms of Use (Policy) outlines how zen magpie collects, uses, maintains, and discloses data from users of its mobile applications (Apps) — Monk Mode, Stoic Mind, and Art Trails — and its website at zenmagpie.com, which includes the browser game Cone The Duke. By using our Apps or website, you agree to these terms.

1. Personal Identification Information

We only collect personal information (such as your name or email address) when you voluntarily provide it — for example, when you email us for support. Providing this information is optional and does not affect your ability to use our Apps.

2. Device & Usage Information

We collect non-personal technical information that may include:

  • Device model, operating system version, and app version
  • App usage events (screen views, feature interactions) and crash reports
  • Advertising identifiers (e.g., Apple IDFA, Google Advertising ID)
  • An anonymous, randomly generated device identifier used by our web game Cone The Duke to save your score to the leaderboard without creating an account
  • Approximate location derived from IP address, as standard with web and analytics services

3. Location Data (Art Trails only)

Art Trails uses your device's GPS to create, preview, and record routes for runs, walks, and rides.

  • We request location permission only when you launch a feature that needs it, and we collect precise location only while the App is in use. We do not track background location.
  • Route data is stored locally on your device. Any export to Strava, Garmin, Komoot, or similar services is performed by you and sent directly from your device to that service.
  • We do not sell or share your location data. Map tiles and routing are rendered by Mapbox, which receives location coordinates only for the purpose of displaying the map.
  • You can revoke location permission at any time in your device's Settings.

4. Cookies & Analytics

  • Website: we use Firebase Analytics (Google Analytics 4) to measure page views, referrers, and general visitor patterns. On your first visit you will be asked to accept or decline analytics cookies; analytics cookies are set only if you accept. You can change your choice at any time via the cookie notice at the bottom of the site.
  • Art Trails: uses Firebase Analytics to understand how features are used. On iOS, you will be prompted via App Tracking Transparency before any tracking identifier is used. You can change this choice at any time in iOS Settings.
  • Monk Mode and Stoic Mind: do not use Firebase Analytics or any other analytics SDK.

5. Advertisements

Monk Mode, Stoic Mind, and Art Trails display advertisements via Google AdMob to support the free tier. AdMob may use device and advertising identifiers to deliver ads. On iOS, ad personalization requires your consent via App Tracking Transparency; if you decline, you will still see ads but they will be non-personalized. 6. In-App Purchases & Subscriptions

Our Apps offer in-app purchases and subscriptions to unlock features or remove ads.

  • Payments are processed directly by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Their respective privacy policies apply.
  • Subscription lifecycle management is handled by RevenueCat, which receives anonymous purchase information (transaction IDs, subscription status, anonymous user ID) on our behalf. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, or payment card details.

Please note: all in-app purchases are non-refundable.

7. Notifications

Our Apps may schedule local notifications on your device — for example, habit reminders in Monk Mode or daily quote notifications in Stoic Mind. These notifications are generated and delivered entirely on your device. No notification tokens are sent to us or to any server, and we do not send push notifications from our servers. You can disable notifications at any time in your device's Settings.

8. Game Leaderboard Data (Cone The Duke)

The Cone The Duke browser game stores anonymous score data in Cloud Firestore to power its public leaderboard. We store:

  • A randomly generated device identifier (saved in your browser's localStorage)
  • Your best daily score and best all-time score
  • A UTC date key so daily boards reset globally

No names, email addresses, or payment details are stored in the leaderboard. You can reset your identifier at any time by clearing your browser's site data for zenmagpie.com, or request full deletion as described in Section 13.

9. Third-Party Services & Data Processors

We rely on the following services to operate our Apps and website. Each is bound by its own privacy policy:

  • Firebase (Google) — Analytics and Cloud Firestore. Firebase Privacy
  • Google AdMob — in-app advertising. Google Privacy
  • RevenueCat — subscription and purchase management. RevenueCat Privacy
  • Mapbox — map tiles and routing for Art Trails. Mapbox Privacy
  • Apple App Store and Google Play — app distribution and payment processing. Their privacy policies govern that processing.

10. How We Use Collected Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve our Apps and website
  • Deliver in-app features such as map rendering, leaderboards, and local reminders
  • Process purchases and manage subscriptions
  • Diagnose crashes and fix bugs
  • Show advertisements and measure their performance
  • Respond to you when you contact us for support

11. Security Measures

We take reasonable precautions to protect your data, including transport-level encryption (HTTPS) and reliance on established providers such as Google Firebase and Apple/Google payment systems. However, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Data Retention

We retain your information only for as long as necessary to provide our services and for legitimate business or legal reasons:

  • Personal information (such as name and email, if voluntarily provided): retained while your account or communication with us is active, and deleted within 30 days of a verified deletion request.
  • Usage and analytics data (such as device information, app events, and crash reports): retained in aggregated or anonymized form for up to 24 months to help us understand and improve our Apps.
  • Route, drawing, and preference data created inside our Apps: stored locally on your device by default. If you uninstall an App, this data is removed from your device.
  • Game leaderboard data (Cone The Duke): daily scores are superseded each UTC day; all-time scores are retained until you request deletion or clear your browser's site data.
  • Purchase and subscription records: retained by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat for as long as required by tax, accounting, and consumer-protection law.
  • Advertising identifiers: governed by the retention policies of our advertising partners (e.g., Google AdMob).

13. Your Rights & How to Delete Your Data

You have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. You can request data deletion in the following ways:

  • In-App: uninstalling the App removes locally stored data from your device.
  • In-Browser (Cone The Duke): clearing site data for zenmagpie.com in your browser removes your anonymous identifier and local game state.
  • By Email: send a deletion request to hello.zenmagpie@gmail.com with the subject line "Data Deletion Request" and the name of the App(s) concerned.
  • We will confirm receipt within 7 days and complete deletion of personal data within 30 days. Some anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained for legitimate service-improvement purposes.

14. Children's Privacy

Our Apps and website are not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

15. Changes to This Privacy Policy

zen magpie may update this policy from time to time. Users are encouraged to review it periodically. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates when it was most recently revised.

16. Your Acceptance of These Terms

By using our Apps or website, you consent to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use.
